2. How to Make Changes

Workbook Page 8

If you want something to change, you must first picture what you want it to become.

You must Begin with the End in Mind.

Change takes a lot of hard work. Sometimes it feels like nobody cares but you. You must be strong and keep trying.

Many things need to change. You cannot work on them all. You must pick what is most important to you and work on that.

Do you know what change is most important to you?
Here is a way to find out.

Your 100th Birthday Party

Pretend it is your 100th birthday. All your life, you tried to make the world a better place.

When friends and family give a speech about you at your 100th birthday party, what do you hope they will say about the difference you made in the world?

Write or draw a picture in your workbook or on a sheet of paper of what you will have done to make things better.

What Do You Want to Change?

Your 100th birthday story may tell you how you want to make a difference in the world.

Other people may want to change the same things. It is easier to make a plan for change if you do it together.

Find or form a group with others who want to change the same thing. Answer these questions together.
  1. What do you want it to be like in the end? (This is called the result or outcome.)
  2.  What keeps that from happening now? (These are sometimes called barriers.)
  3. What help do you need to change that?

Tell others. What good ideas do they have to help you?

Write or draw your answers in your workbook or on a sheet of paper.

Share good ideas. Offer help with others' plans when you can.
