How to Have a Say

Government decisions have a big impact on your life. So you have a right to make sure government knows what you need from them to have a good life.

There are many ways to tell government what is important to you and what you think.
Some ways work better than others, but all are important.

Here are the main ways you can have a say in what government does:
  • Vote in an election

  • Get involved with a political party
  • Sign or start a petition
  • Fill in a government survey
  • Have a public rally
  • Write a letter or e-mail to government or the media
  • Have a meeting with someone in government
  • Respond to a community consultation
  • Make a speech in public
  • Be on a government committee or task force
